Let Us Pause To Honor the Memory of 
Mrs. Barbara Burkert Kiffmeyer

Mrs. Barbara Burkert Kiffmeyer, age 80, of Hanover, Indiana entered this life on November 22, l937 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late George C., and Maxine Lockridge Burkert. Barbara was a 1955 graduate of Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis. She earned a B.A. in English from Hanover College in 1960, where she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority, and received her M.A. in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee in 1974. She worked as a children’s librarian in the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library system from 1981-1998 and as a media specialist in the Portland (Oregon) Public Schools from 1978-1980. Her work as a librarian included service on committees of the American Library Association, the Indiana Library Federation, and the Governor’s Pre-White House Conferences on Libraries in Salem, Oregon. An active volunteer throughout her adult life, she served on the boards of Cornerstone Society, Inc., English Speaking Union, Lanier Mansion Foundation, Jefferson County Historical Society and Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. Barbara was an active docent with Historic Madison, Inc. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church, where she served as a member of the vestry. Barbara was a lover of art, antiques, history and books. Barbara died on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at her home in Hanover, Indiana.

Barbara will be missed by her loving sons, Fritz Kiffmeyer and his wife Leslie and their children, Ryland and Peter of Indianapolis, Indiana, Wade Kiffmeyer and his daughter, Jordan of Indianapolis, Indiana; her loving daughter, Jennifer Kiffmeyer and her husband Jonathan Graham and their children, Ben and Lizzy of Richmond, Indiana; her loving sisters, Marcia Belt of Indianapolis, Indiana, Mary Balph and her husband, Mark of Charlestown, Indiana and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George C. and Maxine Lockridge Burkert. She was also predeceased by William "Wave" Kiffmeyer, to whom she was married from 1961-1980. 

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., by The Rev. Evelyn Wheeler at the Christ Episcopal Church, 506 Mulberry Street in downtown Madison, Indiana. Inurnment will follow in the Christ Episcopal Church Columbarium in downtown Madison, Indiana. 

Friends may gather Saturday from 1:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church, 506 Mulberry Street in Madison, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Episcopal Church or the Madison-Jefferson County Public Library.
